We’ve all heard the saying, “You are what you eat.” Well, I’d like to propose something slightly different. How about, “You are what you surround yourself with.”

I thought about what I was going to write today, and I decided that I couldn’t explain what I was feeling inside without illustrating my thoughts. So I pulled out my notepad and started to sketch out my, “What surrounds me?” spider chart in an attempt to find out why I surround myself with certain things.

As my spider chart grew, the connections became so easy. I started to notice that everything I surrounded myself with, I saw as a bigger, greater being; whether it was my best friends, music, my family, even my dog!…there was some connection that I was determined to discover.

Drawing my spider chart was such a quick and positive way to put a great big smile on my face. I saw that I was surrounded by things that I admire and respect; surrounding me were things that I wanted to have a relationship with. I jotted down the names of friends who are always honest and genuinely caring, to say the least (a trait that I continuously strive to emulate). I also added my dog to the list of, “bigger and greater things,” because she’s always happy and loving; I really admire that she never judges; especially on the days that I wake up on the wrong side of the bed! And so on, and so on…my list got bigger, and the connections I was making became closer.

The last connection I made on my chart is the reason for today’s post. I found that I ultimately surround myself with things that inspire me. I can’t emphasize it enough: I am so grateful for my surroundings: my friends, inspirational music, art, my community, my family, and all of my supporters…yep, that’s you guys! So to all of you, I owe a huge, “THANK YOU!”… I hope that I can keep providing you with the inspiration we all need!

So here’s my attempt at my “What surrounds me?” spider chart:

I hope you join me on this (halfway) artistic adventure!

I want to know what YOUR spider chart looks like!

Please submit your “What surrounds me?” spider charts to MLEstyle@gmail.com and I will post the winners next Thursday, September 3rd!

Don’t be shy! I love hearing from all of you!
